Show Highlights
- We are in the final stages of the Back to basics Series
- We welcome a long-time colleague of Bennie’s to the team: Welcome Nicole!
- Bennie loves to work in threes:
- 3 stages to off leash training
- 3 tools for training
- 3 rules for correction
- 3 rules for distraction
- 3 rules for consistency
- It’s our first anniversary for the show!
- Diving into the 3 rules of consistency
- Don’t forget the 10-1 ratio
- These rules are really about training you–not your dog.
- Rule #1
- Once you give a command, no matter what happens, you always have to end it in a positive way
- You must understand at times that there is NO WAY your dog will complete the command, so you MUST release your dog from the command by saying “All Done”.
- How to end the command
- If your dog does the command really well you may want to pet your dog and give that type of praise
- Praise is only praise when the command is completed. Any other attention you give your dog is only motivation
- If your dog breaks the command, use your release command phrase—this is motivation to your dog, not praise
Homework
- Practice ending commands in a positive way.
