Everyone wants to have their dog off-leash trained.
Today, discover the three stages your dog will follow to be fully trained off-leash.
In this episode, Bennie explains the stages a dog and owner must go through to be successfully trained off-leash.
Show Highlights
- There are three stages to go off-leash:
- For two to three months, you must teach and train your dog on the leash.
- For four to five months, you will now be working with your dog on the leash and you will not be touching the leash.
- For six to seven months you will be working with your dog totally off the leash.
- What would your dog do if you gave commands when she wasn’t wearing a leash? What would you do?
- Devin talks about how tequila is a benefit when off-leash training your dog.
- Bennie talks about why he believes in his 10:1 Rule.
- In the second stage of training you, leave the leash on your dog. The dog then feels that you have control even when you physically don’t have control at this point.
- Have you ever noticed that dogs mind better on the leash than when off the leash?
- Devin relates this to the service industry and how people in uniform are better trainees.
- The last stage is that there is no leash on the dog at all. This process reveals how consistent you are in your life up to this point.
Homework
- Practice ending commands in a positive way.
