Show Highlights

  • We are in the final stages of the Back to basics Series
  • We welcome a long-time colleague of Bennie's to the team: Welcome Nicole!
  • Bennie loves to work in threes:
    • 3 stages to off leash training
    • 3 tools for training
    • 3 rules for correction
    • 3 rules for distraction
    • 3 rules for consistency
  • It's our first anniversary for the show!
    • Diving into the 3 rules of consistency
    • Don't forget the 10-1 ratio
    • These rules are really about training you not your dog.
  • Rule #1
    • Once you give a command, no matter what happens, you always have to end it in a positive way
    • You must understand at times that there is NO WAY your dog will complete the command, so you MUST release your dog from the command by saying All Done .
  • How to end the command
    • If your dog does the command really well you may want to pet your dog and give that type of praise
    • Praise is only praise when the command is completed. Any other attention you give your dog is only motivation
  • If your dog breaks the command, use your release command phrase this is motivation to your dog, not praise

Homework

  • Practice ending commands in a positive way.
